The pure joy that comes from seeing the beach for the first time in a year.
The excitement of waves crashing at your feet.
The freedom of running full force towards the ocean.
Not a care in the world except getting to the water.
Kids don't care how they look in their swim suit.
They don't care who is watching them act crazy in the water.
Nolan doesn't hold back his squeals of happiness as the waves grow bigger.
Harper won't close her eyes even if a wave is about to hit her in the face because she doesn't want to miss any little thing.
We just got back from the beach, and it wasn't a perfect vacation by any means but these kids reminded me to slow down and just be in the moment.
As I looked over the vacation pictures and videos I couldn't help but envy their freedom and worry free life.
But then, at the same time, God reminded me of Matthew 6:25-34. He tells us not to worry about what we will eat, drink, or wear. The birds in the sky and the flowers in the field don't worry about these things and He cares about us way more than them.
It's so much much easier said than done to live this way. But think about your children or a child you know. There is so little in their life that they can control and they know this. At some point in our lives we become adults and think we have to control everything around us or the world will fall apart.
I struggle with anxiety so I know this feeling very well. But I've learned that when worry starts creeping in and trying to take over I ask myself these things:
-Can I control this?
-If I can, then pray about how.
-If I can't, then move on and pray about it.
We can have that joy and freedom like kids at the beach! Adult life is never completely worry free; but so much of it is out of our control and needs to be given to God. Give it to him 100 times a day if you need to! It's something that takes practice.
The less unnecessary worry you have in your life the more room you have for moments like this: contentment, peace, confidence, and joy. Then tell everybody you know about the God that gives it to you!
